Goose down is one of the best filling materials found in nature. Goose down filled products are extremely durable and provide very good insulation. In fact, goose down is the filling material with the best thermal insulation per gram compared to other natural or artificial filling materials. Due to these unique thermal properties, goose and duck down is used extensively as a filling material in products that need to keep warm, such as winter coats, sleeping bags and quilts.
Difference Between Goose Feather and Duck Feather
Goose down and duck down are basically very similar in structure. Both types of down are used in the production of the same products, and the products filled with both types have very good properties such as softness and heat insulation.
However, since geese are generally larger than ducks, goose down feathers can be larger than duck down feathers. The difference between duck and goose down is less important when using down feathers that do not have a very high filling power, but when high filling power, i.e. high thermal insulation with less weight, is desired, it would be more appropriate to use goose down.
Duck feathers are generally a bit more affordable than goose feathers. As a result of this price advantage, they are used as an alternative to goose feathers.
